Becoming a mother is a profound and life-changing experience. It’s filled with moments of joy, wonder, and deep connection. But alongside these highs, many mothers face challenges that can feel overwhelming. In fact, one in seven women will struggle with symptoms of Postpartum Depression (PPD) or Postpartum Anxiety (PPA). These experiences, while common, often feel isolating and misunderstood.
At Open Palm Counseling, we understand the unique challenges of new motherhood. That’s why we created Mom’s Voice, a supportive and confidential group designed to help mothers navigate postpartum depression and anxiety. Our mission is to provide a safe, non-judgmental space where mothers can connect, process their feelings, and gain tools to manage their well-being.
What Is Mom’s Voice?
Mom’s Voice is a six-week support group tailored specifically for mothers experiencing PPD and PPA. This intimate, closed group is limited to 10 participants, ensuring personalized attention and a sense of community. Each 1.5-hour session offers evidence-based coping strategies, opportunities to connect with other mothers, and tools to foster healing and growth.
What to Expect Each Week
Our sessions cover a variety of topics designed to empower and support you through this journey:
Session 1: The Birth of a Mother
Motherhood is a new chapter, and it’s okay to not have all the answers. This session focuses on creating a welcoming and safe space for mothers to share their experiences. We’ll explore the gap between expectations and reality, as well as practical self-care strategies to help you feel more grounded.
Session 2: Understanding Postpartum Depression & Anxiety
Distinguishing between Baby Blues and postpartum mood disorders can be challenging. This session dives into identifying symptoms, exploring treatment options (including medication), and understanding how to navigate these challenges with professional guidance.
Session 3: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) Coping Tools
Learn practical CBT strategies to address intrusive thoughts, overwhelming emotions, and stress. This session equips you with actionable tools to manage anxiety and regain a sense of control.
Session 4: Transitioning from Partners to Parents
Motherhood often shifts the dynamics of relationships. In this session, we’ll focus on clear communication, advocating for your needs, and strengthening your connection with your partner during this transformative time.
Session 5: Mindfully Attaching with Your Baby
Building a bond with your baby while caring for yourself can feel like a delicate balance. This session explores ways to connect with your baby, accept the challenges of motherhood, and extend grace to yourself in this new season of life.
Session 6: Healing Through Creative Arts
Art has the power to heal. In our final session, we’ll explore how creative expression can help turn pain into something meaningful. Participants will have the opportunity to reflect on their journey and celebrate their progress.
